By sponsoring children you help give them a better chance at life. We aim for our students to attend school all the way through to the end of high school. The Tanzanian Government has made education free. This means that the already large class numbers are overflowing with no extra teachers, desks and chairs. To just purchase a uniform and shoes is often beyond the reach of many living in Kaloleni, so there are still "street children" whose families see no value in education. There is also the costs associated with school requirements and one school meal a day.
Adding to the challenge, healthcare in Tanzania is not free; with those who can afford it relying on health insurance. For many in Kaloleni, this not achievable, putting at risk the health and well-being of children in an area with constantly poor health outcomes. Therefore, Team Vista includes regular check-ups and emergency healthcare to those who need it in our sponsorship program.
Rates of education and literacy are low in Kaloleni, thus leading to low employment rates and health outcomes. Child sponsorship can help to break that cycle of poverty - with recent independent studies on child sponsorship showing that on average, sponsor children stay in school 1-1.5 years longer than their non-sponsored peers. These figures are higher in East Africa, with approximately 2.4 years longer. What's more, 27-40% were more likely to finish secondary school, and 50-80% were more likely to go university. Education sponsorship also raises self-esteem levels, and 30-75% were more likely to become community leaders.
As a sponsor, you will receive an information sheet about your child and regular updates.
