Newland Village Farm

Team Vista has purchased a plot of land in the village of Newland, located around half an hour from Moshi. After local Mosh-based Team Vista staff identified the cultivation of food crops on smallholder farms a viable candidate for local income generation, a farm is currently being established – providing work for local tradespeople and farmers, and will soon provide residence for one local family who will have principle care-taking responsibilities.
The main purpose of the farm is to diversify Team Vista's income streams to support our community development projects in Kaloleni. By encouraging a local solution to fundraising efforts, the pressure is taken of on potentially unsustainable fundraising efforts in Australia, while simultaneously assisting in providing jobs, a home and other development outcomes in the Newland village area.
A building has been established to house the family of four to live on the farm and will be soon be complete with a solar and battery system for electricity in the evenings. An eco-friendly and waterless composting toilet is to be installed, along with completion of the onsite well to maintain the farm.
Our food crops will be sold wholesale in the Kilimanjaro region, and will service the kitchen at our not-for-profit accommodation, Haria Hotel, located in Moshi.
