Newland Village Farm
Team Vista has purchased a plot of land in the village of Newland, thanks to our major sponsor W and G Engineering, located around half an hour from Moshi.
A house has also been built and after a few unsuccessful attempts to employ a farmer, Team Vista has now given the opportunity to farm to one of our young Team Vista boys, Rama.
Newland is a fast growing community and has now town water on each home. Electricity wiring is now in place and connected.
We also have our own well, which pumps water up to a holding tank. This tank is used for crop irrigation as well as toilet and shower. Ally, Rama and the boys have now laid underground pipes up to the water tank.
Rama has also built a chicken coop. Ploughing and planting does not usually take place until February and March of each year, however Rama is beginning to 'hand plough' the land and establish crops such as greens, lettuce and tomatoes. The main crop grown is maize although we have also had success with butternut pumpkin, zucchinis and cucumbers.
Rama and his beautiful wife and new little daughter are working the farm. Rama has built a chicken coop and is now producing both chickens and eggs. The chicken coop is amazing so they have a good supply of eggs to sell.
