Our Achievements (2011) and Future Initiatives

Since Team Vista commenced its project in Moshi/Tanzania we have managed to achieve several positive outcomes that have assisted the HIV community of Kaloleni. After visits from Kerry Frost and Caroline Collier (Team Vista Directors) we have successfully completed the following:

  • Renovations of the nursery school, including:
    • Interior and exterior paint job
    • New cupboards
    • New toilets that flush – now connected to a proper sewage line
    • Installation of new water tank
    • Installation of electricity
    • Completion of a new kitchen
    • Completion of a new garden bed

 

Commencement of the ‘Women’s group project.’ We are so proud to report that thanks to local artist and friend (Sibo) it has been possible to take over 15 women who scavenge the local rubbish tip for any items of value and set up a small business. We purchased sewing machines, material and built a small area for the business to operate out of.

   

  • Continuation of Sponsorship Program (nursery-primary-high school):
    • We have visited and assessed a majority of our sponsorship children and delivered them packages, which include- clothing, pencils and other school resources.  
    • Thanks to a generous family from Middle Harbour Public School we have been able to send 6 of the brightest students from Kaloleni Primary School through to high school. The students would otherwise have been unable to further their education in high school.

         

    After purchasing and renovating the nursery school and implementing a variety of programs we are now looking to expand and perform a larger role in the community. Future initiatives include:

    • Development of other small community businesses
    • Development of a larger school/community garden
    • Continuation and extension of our sponsorship program
    • Commencement of health education and screening
